1. KDE Plasma

KDE Plasma 5 is the successor of the KDE Plasma 4 and was originally released on July 15, 2014, includes a new default theme , known as the " Breeze " , as well as increased convergence across devices. The graphical interface is fully migrated to QML , which uses OpenGL hardware acceleration resulting in better performance and reduced power consumption.

Gnome shell is the main interface of Gnome ( Beginning on Gnome 3 ). Gnome shell no longer use Compiz. But using mutter as a compositing window manager based Metacity and clutter. Gnome shell can not display the 3D effect like Compiz cube. Because it does not use Compiz.

3. Unity
Canonical developed two versions of a unity in which both of these versions are very similar in terms of appearance. That unity ( Shell ) and Unity 2D ( Applications ). Unity desktop environment instead. Unity is a shell that runs on the GNOME Desktop Environment , developed by Canonical Ltd for ubuntu. Unity at 11:04 ubuntu is a Compiz plugin together with another Compiz plugin. Just the difference with another Compiz plugin is unity requires higher hardware capabilities .
Unity requires more system resources than a GNOME shell 3.x or KDE, not to mention all the other popular Linux desktop environments. In unity , there is one panel and is always at the top of the desktop. In addition, there is a dock program - such as the so - called " launcher " that is always on the left side of the desktop. In appearance , Unity closely resembles the Mac OS X desktop where the dock has been positioned on the left side.

ReplyAny time I build out a GNU/Linux machine I always use Mate. It's easy and "medium" weight and has the same vibe as Windows 7.
